Avani Lekhara: Avani Lekhara again targets gold in Para Shooting World Cup, gets emotional on social media after victory


Chattiero (France): Indian shooter Avani Lekhara on Saturday won her second gold medal in the Para Shooting World Cup being held in Chatiero, France. Avani won this medal in the SH1 category of women’s 50m rifle three position. Earlier, Tokyo Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara on Tuesday won gold in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event with a world record of 250.6.

Avani Lekha won the gold medal with a score of 458.3. She defeated Veronika Vdoviskova of Slovakia. Veronika Vdoviskova has a total of 6 Olympic medals including four gold. Veronica’s score was 456.6. Swegen’s Anna Norman finished third and had to be content with the bronze medal.

Avni was earlier on the verge of being ruled out of the tournament as her coach and assistant were initially denied visas. The matter was resolved after the intervention of the Sports Authority of India and the Sports Ministry. Avani had won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle standings event in the SH1 category at the Tokyo Paralympics in August last year. She also won a bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle three position SH1 event and became the first Indian woman to win more than one medal at the Paralympics.
