Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu crashed out of the first round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 badminton tournament after losing in straight games to He Bing Jiao of China on Tuesday. Seventh seed Sindhu lost 14-21, 18-21 to Bing Xiao in women’s singles. With this win, Bing Xiao’s record against Sindhu has gone up to 10-8.
Former world champion Sindhu has won only two titles this season. This defeat will affect their preparations for next month’s Commonwealth Games. B Sai Praneeth also lost 16-21, 19-21 to Hans Kristian Solberg Wittingus of Denmark in men’s singles. The mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto also faced a similar situation.
The Indian pair went down 14-21, 11-21 to Hong Kong’s Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung Hong in just 32 minutes. Sindhu got off to a slow start against Bing Xiao. The Chinese soon took a 9-2 lead and were 11-4 at the break.
Sindhu then scored four points in a row but Bing Xiao did not give her a chance to come back further. Bing Xiao also took a 5-1 lead in the second game. Sindhu tried to make the match close but she could not stop the Chinese player from winning.
