Porterfield, who scored 11 centuries in ODI cricket, was like a pillar in the top order for Ireland. He scored 10,000 runs at the international level in all competitions ranging from various world cricket league competitions to the global level. He was appointed captain in 2008 and led the team in 178 matches.
Porterfield, who made his international debut in 2006, was the Irish captain in two Cricket World Cup campaigns and five T20 World Cups.
