In the ongoing home T20 series against South Africa, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has proved to be a complete flop. Pant could not show anything special in the four matches played in the series so far. After Pant’s continuous poor performance, now great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has questioned his selection in the team. Gavaskar believes that Pant’s dismissal on deliveries outside the off-stump is not a good sign.
Pant, who has scored 740 runs in 47 T20Is for India so far, has been losing his wicket while trying to play a big shot on the ball outside off-stump. Gavaskar said during commentary on Star Sports, ‘He has not learned. Even in the last three matches, he has not learned a lesson from his wicket. He said, ‘They are bowling the ball outside and he is constantly getting caught in this net. He has to avoid playing aerial shots on these balls.
He said, ‘The South African team has made a special strategy against Pant. Throw the ball outside the off-stump and take his wicket. Pant has scored 29, 5, 6 and 17 runs in the series so far.
Gavaskar said, ‘This year he has been dismissed like this ten times in T20 matches. Some of them would have been wides if he hadn’t tampered with the ball. With the ball being too far outside, he has to apply extra force as well. He said, ‘It is not a good sign for India captain to get out in one series in one way in a row.’
