Colombo: The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team (India women’s cricket team tour of Sri Lanka) arrived here on Sunday for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka starting June 23. The Indian team has gone on this tour without senior players like Mithali Raj, who has retired from all forms of cricket and veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami.
The young Indian team will play three ODIs and as many T20Is at Pallekele and Dambulla respectively. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) welcomed the Indian team on arrival and also posted pictures on their social media handles. The Indian team had attended the camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before leaving for Sri Lanka and in the meantime held talks with NCA chief VVS Laxman.
Before leaving for Sri Lanka, VVS Laxman, the former batsman of the Indian team and the current Chief of the National Cricket Academy, met the Indian team.
According to Harmanpreet, this tour is a great opportunity to build a strong team. He had said on Saturday, ‘We are working hard on our team, we have the best combination. We are going without the senior players for the first time, so this is a good tour for us from the perspective of making a fresh start. This is a big opportunity for all of us to form a team.
