PM Modi flagged off Chess Olympiad: PM Modi played chess with world champions, launched the torch of Chess Olympiad like this


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off the first torch relay of the prestigious tournament ahead of the 44th season of the Chess Olympiad. The Chess Olympiad will be held in Mahabalipuram from July 28 to August 10. For the first time, FIDE, the international governing body of chess, has organized the torch relay, inspired by the Olympic tradition. Never before had the torch relay been organized before the Chess Olympiad. FIDE President Arkady Vorkovich handed over the torch to the Prime Minister, who presented it to the legendary chess player Viswanathan Anand.

The torch will travel through 75 cities in 40 days to reach Mahabalipuram near Chennai. In each city the torch will be handed over to the Chess Grandmaster of that state. Leh, Srinagar, Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai, Bhopal, Patna, Kolkata, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Thrissur, Port Blair and Kanyakumar are among the 75 cities through which the torch will pass. India is hosting this prestigious tournament for the first time in the nearly 100-year history of Chess Olympiad. 188 countries have registered for the upcoming Olympiad.

Prime Minister Modi, who played a chess board trick against woman Grandmaster Koneru Humpy, said on the occasion, “The first torch relay of Chess Olympiad is starting from India, as well as this is the first time India is hosting this big event. Is.’ He said, ‘We are proud that this sport has grown from its birthplace and has made its presence all over the world. We are glad to see that Chess has returned to its birthplace and are celebrating its success in the form of Chess Olympiad.

Modi said, ‘FIDE has decided that the torch relay will start from India. It is an honor not only of India but also of Chess. Modi said that chess has become not just a game but an educational tool. He said, ‘Wrestling, Kabaddi, Malkhamb were played in India to stay fit and our ancestors invented chess for analytical skills. Chess reached and became popular all over the world. Today chess has become an educational tool and chess players are solving problems. The Prime Minister said that the game of chess provides individual foresight which is vital for success in any field.

“Another great aspect of the game of chess is farsightedness. Chess tells us that real success comes from foresight, not short-term goals.’ Modi said that foresight is visible in India’s sports policy and Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and Khelo India, whose results are starting to pay off. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, who was present during the function, thanked the Prime Minister for his support to the Games. Thakur said, “It is a big opportunity for India that it is being hosted in the same country where chess was born. I thank the Prime Minister for his support.

“Whenever there is a torch relay, it will start from India. India participated in Chess Olympiad for the first time in 1956 and after that it took years to win medals but never looked back after that. Vorkovic said that he is grateful to the Indian government for hosting this prestigious tournament. He said, ‘I am happy to start the tradition of torch relay in India. The Olympic torch symbolizes the Olympic campaign and friendship, so is the torch relay. In future we are planning to organize torch relay all over the world but it will always start from India.

Vorkovich said, “FIDE is grateful to the Government of India for this initiative that will popularize the sport. We hope that chess becomes part of the educational program in schools in India and around the world. He said, “Today India is the fastest growing chess playing country in the world. It was a dream to organize Olympiads in India. The celebrations began with the traditional dance of India presenting a glimpse of 64 squares of chess. The program showcased the history, origin and development of this ancient sport.
