Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has challenged the contenders for the World T20 to be held later this year. There is still less than four months left for the tournament to begin. But till now 15 players in the team have not been confirmed. Before the tournament in Australia, India has to play 13 T20 Internationals, in which matches are to be played against Ireland (2), England (3), West Indies (5) and Australia (3).
Head coach Dravid wants his young players to show a strong game in the warm-up matches. Dravid said, ‘I was telling those people that they have to knock on the door. Just knocking won’t work. Have to start banging the door. We want to finalize the team for the World Cup as soon as possible. Whether it will happen in the next series or the series after that is difficult to say, but we definitely want to do it as soon as possible.
Dravid believes that Dinesh Karthik has provided many options with his aggressive last overs batting. Dravid also wants to determine the main squad for the World Cup by the end of the series against England and made it clear that one has to perform exceptionally well to make it to the last 15 players.
The final was washed out due to rain after the five-match series against South Africa ended in a 2-2 draw. India and England will play six limited overs matches from July 7-17 after the one-off Test. According to Dravid, Karthik and Hardik Pandya are the two batsmen who can change the equation of the match in the death overs.
