Mumbai has secured a place in the final of the Ranji Trophy for the 47th time on the back of brilliant batting from young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi, who did wonders with his bat in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, continues to rock even after him. He scored centuries in both the innings against Uttar Pradesh in the semi-finals after scoring a century in the second innings of the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy.
Tips taken from Chahal
Along with being an opener, 20-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal also bowls leg spin. He has not got chances in IPL, but in U-19 cricket he used to bowl continuously. In an interview with Times of India, Yashasvi told that he has taken leg spin bowling tips from Yuzvendra Chahal. He said, ‘He (Chahal) is a mystery man. He has many variations. He plays chess very well. I spoke to him and got bowling tips. He told me that I can be a good all-rounder. I told him that I want to be the best all-rounder in the world. I want to be the best in both the bowling and batting departments.
India lacks such player
There is no such batsman in the top order of the Indian team, who used to bowl continuously. There was a time when there were players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag in the top order of the team. All three have more than 100 wickets in international cricket. There was a player like Yuvraj Singh in the middle order. But now there is no such player. Once Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli used to bowl, but now they don’t either.
Dhawan’s alternatives being considered
Cricket experts are considering Yashasvi Jaiswal as an alternative to Shikhar Dhawan. The left-handed batsman has also scored a double century in the Yashasvi Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is the youngest player in the world to score a century in List A cricket.
