Lisa Sthalekar FICA President: India-born Lisa Sthalekar created history, became the first Mahli President of FICA


London: Australia’s legendary cricketer Lisa Sthalekar has become the first woman president of the Federation of International Cricketers (FICA). The 42-year-old Sthalekar, the former Australia captain, was confirmed to assume the position at the FICA Executive Committee meeting held in Neon, Switzerland. Before him, former South African batsman Barry Richards, former West Indies all-rounder Jimmy Adams and most recently former England batsman Vikram Solanki have held this position.

“The FICA Executive Committee meeting, held this week in Neon, Switzerland, has confirmed Lisa Sthalekar as FICA’s president,” FICA said in a statement. This was the first meeting of FICA after the Kovid-19 pandemic. “After consultation with our members, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa as our first female President,” said Heather Mills, FICA Executive President.

Meanwhile, Sthalekar said, “We are entering a new era of the game which includes more cricket for our men and women players than ever before.” More countries are now playing this game which is proof that cricket is becoming a global sport. Born in Pune, Sthalekar represented Australia in 187 international matches across all three formats of the game.

He did his best performance in ODI cricket. Sthalekar scored 2728 runs in 125 ODIs with the help of two centuries and 16 half-centuries. Apart from this, he also took 146 wickets as an off-spinner. She became the first woman cricketer to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODI cricket. He also played eight Tests and 54 T20 Internationals. He was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2021.
